MPS‑Compact is a sustainability certification developed by MPS, specifically for small‑scale growers. It offers an accessible way to meet market sustainability requirements, such as those of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI) and Royal FloraHolland, without high administrative burdens or costs.
With MPS‑Compact, you demonstrate that you produce responsibly and manage your use of crop protection products, fertilisers, water and energy in a sustainable way.
Who is MPS‑Compact for?
MPS‑Compact is intended for growers who:
have an annual turnover of up to €250,000
want to comply with sustainability requirements, but find extensive certifications (such as MPS‑ABC or MPS‑GAP) too complex
want to be transparent towards buyers, auctions and customers
What does MPS‑Compact involve?
The MPS‑Compact scheme consists of two parts:
1. Environmental record‑keeping
You record the use of:
crop protection products
fertilisers
water
energy
This is done via the MPS record‑keeping environment, in line with the MPS‑ABC standard.
2. Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
In addition, you comply with a set of basic Good Agricultural Practice requirements, such as:
safe and responsible working practices
correct handling of products and resources
attention to your working environment and business operations
All criteria are explained in detail in the MPS‑Compact manual.
How does the certification process work?
In summary, the process looks like this:
You start keeping environmental records
You register your data for six months
An audit is then scheduled
After a positive assessment, you receive the MPS‑Compact certificate
Re‑audits take place once every three years, keeping costs and administration low
What are the benefits of MPS‑Compact?
✅ Meets FSI and market requirements
✅ Less administrative work
✅ Lower certification costs
✅ Ideal as an entry‑level certification
✅ Possibility to grow towards MPS‑ABC, MPS‑GAP or MPS‑SQ while keeping your existing data
